One of my favorite parts of being a Virginia Beach photographer is getting to watch families grow up. This in-home milestone session was a special treat because I got to take newborn photos for them a year ago when they were welcoming this little guy home for the first time. It is so fun to see how much he has changed and grown, and to help this sweet family capture these moments as he grows.
When you think about family photos, or even capturing all the important milestones as your children grow, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed with the details and making everything perfect. What will we wear? How will we coordinate getting to a location on time? Is everything just so? Allow me to alleviate some of that pressure for you. Coordinated family photos at a beautiful location are sometimes a great way to document your family. BUT! There is something so very special and sacred about slowing down and just documenting your every day.
In-home sessions hold a special place in my heart because I know how much time families spend together in their homes. Kids feel comfortable in a familiar place, there is less to coordinate, and everything feels a little more relaxed. These reasons made an in-home session perfect for this laid-back family. Our focus was on capturing his personality at this age, doing a simple cake smash, and snagging a few pictures at the beach where they spend a lot of time. The whole day was about comfort and interacting with their little family.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. No fuss family photos are some of my favorites to document. During this shoot, it felt like a day we were just hanging out. We played peek-a-boo out the window, listened to Dad play the guitar, climbed stairs, played with toys, walked to the beach, and ate cake. And look how stunning the photos of this casual day were!
