My hope is that this blog inspires you to document what matters most to you. I'm a photographer and also a mom to 3. My photography is inspired by the fleeting moments I've found in motherhood.

Are you feeling a bit nervous about your upcoming couples session? First of all, let me reassure you – it’s absolutely normal to have some jitters before stepping in front of the camera. The good news is that those nerves can actually work in your favor, and can fill your photos with genuine emotions and candid moments.

As a Virginia Beach photographer, I’m here to guide you through the process and help make sure your session feels true to who you are as a couple, like I did for Bianca and Jordan. We had so much fun together during their shoot at Studio Muse in Norfolk, Virginia. They are the cutest couple and shared with me that they love traveling together, exploring new places, hiking, working out, cooking, and watching movies. I gave them some tips to ease their nerves and make their session a great experience. Now I’m sharing them with you, too!

Focus on each other.

During your session, the spotlight is on the beautiful connection you share. The best advice I can give you is to simply focus on each other. Engage in heartfelt conversations, share inside jokes, and relish quiet moments together. When you’re wrapped up in each other’s presence and focused on having a good time together, we get some of the best photos that highlight your connection with your partner.

You don’t have to be a model.

I understand that striking poses might feel a bit daunting, but don’t worry – I’m there to provide guidance. My aim is to capture your interactions as they naturally unfold. So, while I might nudge you into positions that showcase your best angles, I also encourage you to let go and go with the flow. Candid moments are often the most beautiful, and I’ll make sure you feel comfortable and confident throughout the session.

Keep it comfortable.

Your outfit choice plays a significant role in how you feel during your session. Opt for clothes that not only make you feel confident, but also reflect your personal style. When you’re comfortable in your attire, that confidence shines through in your photos. So, embrace your unique fashion sense – whether it’s elegant, casual, or something in between.

Choose a meaningful location or activity.

To make your session truly special, consider incorporating activities or locations that hold sentimental value for both of you. Whether it’s revisiting the spot of your first date, enjoying a picnic in the park, or engaging in a shared hobby, these moments will help you relax and showcase your authentic connection.

When in doubt, move!

If you ever feel uncertain during the session, remember that movement can work wonders. Dancing, walking, or simply interacting naturally can shift your focus away from the camera, resulting in wonderfully candid shots.

It’s okay to be unique.

I want your session to feel like YOU. While the beach might be the default setting, it’s okay to step outside the box. It’s okay (and dare I say encouraged!) for you to ask for something different, even if it’s bowling or dancing on the rooftop. If you have a quirky idea for your shoot, I want to hear it! I love when you get creative with your session. Shooting documentary style sessions and including props is so fun, and can be a more relaxed environment for you, too!

In the end, my goal is to capture the genuine love, laughter, and connection that define your relationship. So, embrace the nerves, lean into the things that are unique to you, and trust that we will have a blast capturing photos that feel true to you during your couples session.
